AWG (American wire gauge) American wire gauge is a standard that distinguishes the diameter of a wire and is also called a Brown & Sharpe wire gauge. This standardized wire gauge system began to be used in the United States in 1857. The value in front of the AWG (eg, 24 AWG, 26 AWG) indicates the number of holes to pass before the wire forms the final diameter. The larger the value, the more holes the wire passes through and the smaller the diameter of the wire. The thicker wire has better physical strength and lower resistance, but the thicker the wire, the more copper is needed to make the cable, which can lead to the cable sinking, more difficult to install, and more expensive. The challenge in cable design is to use the smallest possible diameter wire (reduced cost and installation complexity) while at the same time ensuring that the maximum capacity of the wire is achieved at the necessary voltage and frequency.

Reed switch breakdown voltage
Usually higher than the switching voltage, reed switches can withstand higher voltages because, unlike switching voltages, there is no need to consider the arc discharge at turn-off. For large size vacuum reed switches, withstand voltages as high as 15,000 VDC are common, and some smaller vacuum reed switches can withstand 4,000 VDC. Small gas-filled reed switches generally withstand dc voltages. 250 to 600 volts.


Reed switch insulation resistance
Measure the degree of insulation between the two ends of the switch. It is also this parameter that makes reed switches look so unique compared to other switches. Reed switches typically have an insulation resistance of 1x1014 ohms. This high insulation resistance can tolerate leakage currents between (picoAmp) and (femp-toAmp), which makes some semiconductor tests possible. When testing semiconductors, there may be several gates in parallel, and the collected leakage current will have a great impact on the test circuit.


Reed Dielectric Absorption
Describe the effects of different dielectrics on small currents. Currents lower than 1 nanoamperes can be slowed or delayed by the influence of the dielectric, depending on the level of the current to be measured. This delay can reach several seconds.
