From 1642 to 1643, the Frenchman Blaise Pascal, in order to help the father of the tax collector, invented a gear-operated adder called "Pascalene", the first mechanical adder.
In 1666, a mechanical counting machine that could calculate the addend and subtraction was invented in Samuel Morland, England.
In 1671, the famous German mathematician G.W. Leibnitz made the first mechanical computer capable of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing four operations.
In 1673, Gottfried Leibniz built a stepped cylindrical wheel counter called "Stepped Reckoner", which multiplies the repeated numbers and automatically adds them to the adder.
