For most conductors, the resistance is almost constant at a certain temperature and is constant. Such resistors are called linear resistors. The resistance of some materials varies significantly with current (or voltage), and its volt-ampere characteristic is a curve. These resistors are called nonlinear resistors. The nonlinear resistance is a given voltage (or current), the ratio of voltage to current is the static resistance at the operating point, and the slope on the volt-ampere characteristic is the dynamic resistance. The way to express nonlinear resistance characteristics is more complicated, but these nonlinear relationships have been widely used in electronic circuits.
Classified by material
a. Wirewound resistors are made of resistor wire wound into resistors Made of high-resistance alloy wire wound on an insulating skeleton, coated with heat-resistant glaze insulation or insulating paint. The winding resistance has a low temperature coefficient, high resistance precision, good stability, heat and corrosion resistance, and is mainly used for precision high-power resistors. The disadvantage is that the high-frequency performance is poor and the time constant is large.
b. The carbon composite resistor is made of carbon and synthetic plastic.
c. The carbon film resistor is formed by plating a layer of carbon on the porcelain tube, and depositing the crystal carbon on the ceramic rod skeleton. Carbon film resistors are the most widely used resistors because of their low cost, stable performance, wide resistance range, low temperature coefficient and low voltage coefficient.
d. The metal film resistor is plated with a layer of metal on the porcelain tube, and the alloy material is evaporated on the surface of the ceramic rod skeleton by vacuum evaporation.
The metal film resistor has higher precision than the carbon film resistor, good stability, noise, and small temperature coefficient. It is widely used in instrumentation and communication equipment.
e. The metal oxide film resistor is plated with a layer of tin oxide on the porcelain tube, and a metal oxide is deposited on the insulating rod. Since it is itself an oxide, it is stable at high temperatures, has a thermal shock resistance, and has a strong load capacity. It can be divided into general purpose, precision, high frequency, high voltage, high resistance, high power, and resistance networks.
